What elements are required for a successful Web3.0 game?

On December 15, at the Web3.0 Cloud Day Singapore 2022 event, Kevin Shao, executive chairman of ABGA and Bitrise Capital founder, served as the host, Lester Li, CEO and founder of L2 Y and DeGame, and co-founder/COO of NodeReal Ben Zhang, P 12 founder Boyang and Quest 3 co-founder Chess Che were guests at the round table. Everyone expressed their opinions on the theme of GameFi 2.0: A new era of Web3.0 games. The following is a text review.

Roundtable: Web3.0 Game New Era | Web3.0 Cloud Day

Q1

Moderator Kevin Shao, Executive Chairman of ABGA: Each guest can give a brief self-introduction.

Lester Li, CEO and founder of L2 Y and DeGame: DeGame is a one-stop gateway for games and a database of GamiFi data. We have partnerships with over 50 different GamiFi projects, and we hope to help gamers find even more projects in the future.

Ben Zhang, co-founder/COO of NodeReal: NodeReal is a one-stop Web3 infrastructure and solution provider. We are committed to providing high-performance infrastructure services to empower large-scale applications of Web3. We were founded last year and completed a $16 million seed investment in May this year. We currently have more than 200 customers and more than 10,000 developers, including some of the roundtable members on the stage.

P12 founder Boyang: In the past 3 to 4 years, in terms of traditional games, we have built an industry-leading mobile game platform, so we decided to look for opportunities in the Web3 game platform, so we invested in P12. We create game editors, infrastructure, and SDKs that power game creation and open source games. Our goal is to increase the number of game creators and the amount of game content.

Chess Che, co-founder of Quest 3: Now, 70% of users are from SEA, and we believe we can expand our market and we can build something to help mobile applications and bring users to Web3.

Q2

Moderator ABGA Executive Chairman kevinshao: Compared to Web2, I am still relatively new to Web3 games. The question I want to ask is have you played Web3 games before? Will you choose Web2 games or Web3 games? What parts of your Web3 game would you improve compared to Web2?

Lester Li, CEO and founder of L2 Y and DeGame: We have followed more than 50 GamiFi projects and invested in many GamiFi project tokens. By tracking the data, we found that users play Axie infinity as a financial investment rather than having fun playing the game. In this process, people will lose a lot of money and it will be difficult to make it back.

THQ is a small mobile shooting game that was the most popular platform at the time. If the game you play is the next Fornite or Genshin, you can become a co-owner of the game itself. But again, you cant get your money back under Genshins influence. Therefore, for Web3 games, we hope that players can get their funds back. That is the most exciting thing in the Web3 field.

Ben Zhang, co-founder/COO of NodeReal: If you compare Web2 games with Web3 games, it is obvious that Web2 games are more interesting at this stage. Of course, Web3 games are changing and evolving. NodeReal As a technology company, we hope to improve the infrastructure of Web3 games to achieve large-scale application. If you want to build a game with long-term sustainable growth, make sure developers and gamers can continue to build and incentivize them to have higher participation. At the same time, when you are building an ecosystem, you need to carefully plan which part of the data in the game goes to the blockchain, because the blockchain is expensive.

Boyang, founder of P12: When it comes to Web3 games, there is still a long way to go. Web3 games are far removed from the traditional games we play and love. Weve got a long way to go with Web3 games, theyre still not on par, and for good reason, because making games is hard, and adding Web3 technology isnt going to make that any less of a thing. Even if you add a token mechanic, it doesnt make the game better. We are now considering how to make it more attractive while building in Web3 functionality.

Quest 3 co-founder Chess Che: The basis of the game is that you need to observe other players. I think RDR 2, has some very famous content. Once youve played 60 to 70 hours, youll really enjoy the games story. I think thats what the game is about. The whole game is so long, it is not a short process and requires players to be very patient. Once you decide that the game is a great game in Web2, it can work in Web3 as well.

Q3

Moderator ABGA Executive Chairman Kevin Shao: If you want to have a successful game, what elements are more important?

Lester Li, CEO and founder of L2 Y and DeGame: It’s still the economy. Some games in traditional industries have proven that games can last 20 years. And what you can also see is that their economy has lasted for more than 20 years. The equipment in the game can further increase their value. Well also see some Web3 games last 20 years, and their economic scale will exceed anything in traditional games. The economy is similar to an actual country. You need to maintain the value of your in-game currency. Because some people want basic materials to make new weapons, they will spend a lot of money to buy weapons. In this way, a good economic system will be born. This is very important for the sustainable development of the game. You can then use traditional value models to calculate that. For example, Dota2 has tokens. What is the token of Dota2? Itll be a lot because I think these games are worth a lot of money right now. It would be huge if these economies in the game could be transferred.

NodeReal co-founder/COO Ben Zhang: If you look at the life cycle of games, there are very few Web3 games that can survive, and most of them may not last more than 6 months. The team needs to consider how to build an ecosystem and should continue to innovate in attracting new users and making it interesting. Recently, we are supporting several large-scale games, such as South Koreas FNCY Chain. They are transitioning from Web2 to Web3. From the beginning, they systematically planned the entire ecosystem and established their own application chain, significantly improving the existing situation of the Web2 community through blockchain. . In summary, it is crucial that the ecosystem needs to continuously innovate and ensure the high performance and scalability of the infrastructure.

P12 founder Boyang: For a successful game, the most important factor is not money or technology. If you look at the biggest game studios in the world, they also have failed projects every year. A lot of money and resources are poured into them. Although the producers have a successful record, this does not guarantee that all games will be successful. Making games still requires a sense of artistry and inspiration, and that cant be replaced by formula or industrialization. Youll still see indie games, too. While theyre not the richest studio, dont have star producers, and dont have advanced technology, its the details in the game that make it shine, and thats what makes the industry progress. For P12, were lowering the barrier to entry for players so more creators can try it so they can potentially succeed on their second or third try. Thats how we create games.

Chess Che, co-founder of Quest3: I would like to give two examples to illustrate what factors make a successful game. The first is WoW. They have defined what an achievement system is. The system will provide achievement rewards for players various explorations and behavior accumulation in the game. It will neither destroy the balance of the game nor affect the gaming experience of others, but also stimulate the stickiness of players. WoW supports many domestic studios, and some people use this achievement system. The other is the game Dota 2. You can spend money to enrich the accessories of the heroes in the game. This also has no impact on the balance of the game and other heroes, but it increases the players enjoyment and stickiness.

70% of Quest3 customers are Gamefi, and they are all using Quest3 to improve user growth and traffic acquisition. Quest3 provides a license-free, free and easy-to-use product to help all Web3 projects grow.
