Atkins, a former SEC commissioner and supporter of digital assets, previously founded a financial compliance consulting firm in Washington. He is expected to continue the pro-crypto regulatory stance promoted by the Trump administration, succeeding former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, who was criticized for his enforcement-style regulation of the crypto industry.
Also attending the hearing on the same day was Jonathan Gould, the nominee for Director of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
