Hackers are destiny: four levers that drive the future
In Why Software is Eating the World, Marc Andreessen pointed out that the expansion of software is not only a technological revolution, but also a social change. We agree with him. But DoraHacks believes that what really changes the world is not just software, but a group of hackers who are willing to solve problems.
DoraHacks is building the Hacker Movement - a global innovation network that uses freedom, open source and technology as weapons. We believe that the end point of this movement is not some kind of Web3.0 myth, nor is it a technology export in the new Cold War era, but a social reconstruction and a deep response to the question of what is worth building.
In this process, Dora Ventures is the capital engine that assists DoraHacks in coordinating and capturing value. Dora Ventures current work will focus on the following four aspects:
1. FDA Free Society (BioHack)
A Hacker Societys Manifesto for Health Freedom: Unlocking the Market Mechanisms of Life Technologies
Looking back at history, every real technological breakthrough is accompanied by a challenge to the existing paradigm. Today, the medical and health field is still the place where humans are most constrained by bureaucracy. It often takes a decade and billions of dollars for a new drug to go from the laboratory to the patient, and most innovations stop here.
The FDA Free Society is not a call for anarchism, but rather a call for a more dynamic, patient-centered system of health and biotech innovation.
Problems we see:
The FDA’s approval cycle and risk aversion are stifling potential breakthrough treatments;
The market monopoly of large pharmaceutical companies makes drug pricing out of touch with reality and restricts competition;
The patients right to try is marginalized under the regulatory framework;
Small biotech startups have little room to survive in the face of high trial costs.
The solutions we believe in:
Market-driven health innovation mechanism: giving more decision-making power over RD, testing and use back to patients, doctors and entrepreneurs;
Let innovation return to the first principles: not pass approval, but whether it is effective;
Justify Right to Try: The real risk is not trying unapproved therapies, but dying from waiting;
Create a competitive bio-startup ecosystem: Help small teams have the opportunity to change the world, rather than just working for big pharmaceutical companies.
Software and AI-driven biotechnology: The combination of biotechnology and software drives new biotechnology products.
We believe that the future of drug research and development does not belong to a regulatory agency or a large company with a market value of 500 billion, but to a group of innovators who are unwilling to wait.
FDA Free Society is a powerful counterattack against “technological progress must be subject to regulation” and a structural questioning of “innovation must be approved.” We bet on this direction because it is more scarce than “innovation” - it is about the reassertion of human beings’ right to survive.
2. Open Source Quantum
The open source frenzy for quantum software is what Ethereum was to 2015
Arthur C. Clarke once said: Any sufficiently advanced technology looks like magic. Quantum computing is such a technology. But the problem is that for magic to become a tool, it must be programmable, reproducible, and collaborative - in other words, it needs to be open source.
Dora Ventures’ investment logic for quantum computing is clear: Quantum computing is heading towards its “smart contract moment.” The hardware has entered the engineering optimization cycle, and the software and tool layers are still barren, but this is the golden age for hackers.
Here are some key trends we’re watching:
Open source quantum compilers and translators: Breaking down the language barriers between classical and quantum systems;
Quantum cryptography: using the principles of quantum mechanics to build a new encryption system;
Quantum software applications: We believe that quantum computing software and applications can play a huge role in the advancement of technologies such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and blockchain, and directly or indirectly affect important fields such as finance, logistics, pharmaceuticals, national defense, and space exploration.
We are not only observers, but also builders. By hosting hackathons, funding and investing in quantum open source software projects, and conducting research and ecological development in quantum cryptography, we participate in the construction of the most disruptive computing platform of this era.
3. Consumer Crypto
The Spring of Fat Apps Has Arrived: Crypto Will Win the Last Billion Users
If you understand history, you will understand that todays Crypto is not a parallel world of the Internet, but the next chapter of the Internet story.
In the 1990s, HTTP and TCP/IP changed information distribution; in the 2000s, Web applications changed business and social interaction; in the 2010s, mobile applications reshaped human behavior; the 2020s will be the decade when Crypto applications truly go mainstream.
The infrastructure is sufficient and fat applications are emerging.
Dora Ventures’ core judgment is: Whoever can seize the first Crypto application scenario with hundreds of millions of users will write the story of Paypal and WeChat in the Web3 era.
Stablecoin compliance will make USDC a digital dollar;
The globalization of decentralized social and encrypted payments has given rise to the “VISA Network” for Bitcoin and Web3 payments;
The infrastructure of large application chains will lower the user threshold through the Move language and extremely simplified tools;
The on-chain native economic system will enable creators to directly monetize and the community to collaborate and share profits.
Imagine this scenario: a person living in New York uses Circle USDC on the fast Move blockchain network (Aptos) to buy a concert ticket tonight through the on-chain concert platform (KYD Labs), an Argentine resident goes to a cafe every day to buy a latte with Bitcoin satoshis on the Lightning Network, and splits the bill with friends on decentralized social media (Yakihonne), all of which will happen this year. We are not just investing in protocols, but investing in the creators of new paradigms of experience.
4. Agentic Organizations
Organizations will become intelligent entities, and DAOs will become the organizational form of large language models
In 2022, Sam Altman redefined “tool”; in 2025, we will redefined “organization”.
We believe that future organizations will not be matrix structures composed of people, but intelligent systems formed by collaboration among agents.
Agent is a new unit of work that never sleeps, continuously learns, and automatically schedules. It is not a tool to enhance humans, but the brain of an automated organization.
Some examples:
The DAO Agent system will automatically execute the governance process and protect the privacy of participants;
The Smart Widget framework allows developers to deploy social, payment, and transactional agents with just three lines of code;
Privacy protocols and privacy applications become mainstream in automated organizations;
A large number of encryption agents emerged during the hackathon.
AI + blockchain is not a buzzword, but the starting point of organizational intelligence.
In the past, we said that a company is an information processing machine, and in the future, we will say that DAO is a network run by agents. We are entering an era of fully automated organizations that do not require CEOs, approval processes, or offices.
Epilogue: We bet on humans having the “BUIDL freedom”
These four directions - FDA Free Society, Open Source Quantum, Consumer Crypto, and Agentic Organizations - are not the future we imagine, but the future that has already begun to happen.
Dora Ventures is not betting on technology, but on a group of disobedient builders. They are willing to solve real problems, question the existing system, and build a new order. They believe that the world can be different and are willing to make it happen.
The hacker movement is engulfing the world. In the era of artificial intelligence, humans will inevitably become hackers, using code, governance, and imagination to create a world worth living in.
