The sudden outbreak disrupted peoples normal life rhythm. Work plans, outings and even wedding plans prepared in advance have all been postponed or canceled amid repeated outbreaks. For couples who are planning to get married, it is a pity that the wedding photos cannot be taken as scheduled, and the wedding banquet cannot be held as scheduled. Now with a fresh option, metaverse weddings to consider?
Metaverse Weddings Become the New Choice
After the epidemic, the focus of work and life has shifted to online, and the construction of the metaverse concept platform has also accelerated my pace of development. Some companies, such as Com2uS, have moved their office space to the metaverse, and the employees of the company complete their work and interaction in the metaverse. Many celebrities have also moved their offline gatherings online. For example, Justin Bieber held his first virtual concert on the virtual performance platform WAVE, and the real scene was seamlessly transitioned to the metaverse.
Recently, an Indian couple invited 2,000 people to their Metaverse wedding party. Guests can join the wedding from their phones, tablets or laptops.
The groom, a blockchain and cryptocurrency enthusiast, teamed up with the TardiVerse to create a castle-like digital space inspired by Hogwarts, as the couple are both Harry Potter fans.
This metaverse wedding involved party design, development and hosting, costing a total of 150,000 Indian rupees (about 13,000 yuan). The wedding lasted about an hour, and they attended the wedding represented by their avatars in the Metaverse. Guests can visit the castle by operating in front of the computer and customize their avatars and costumes.
One of the funniest highlights of the wedding was the groom customizing a 3D avatar that resembled his late father-in-law so that he too could be there to witness the couples nuptials.
The groom said, My father-in-law passed away last April. So I customized a 3D character similar to his father-in-law, and he would bless me and my fiancée. This is only possible in the metaverse.
The Legality of Metaverse Weddings
At present, Decentralands facilities and ecological development are relatively complete, which also makes it the best choice for hosting metaverse weddings.
An American couple held their wedding on Decentraland last month. Their witnesses, as well as Arizona Supreme Court Judge Clint Bolick, and 2,000 virtual audiences attended the wedding.
The bride and groom also hired the Rose Law Group to legalize the marriage. Rose Law Group is a full-service real estate and business law firm. The firm developed a meta-marriage framework by incorporating a virtual prenuptial agreement, establishing the couples virtual identities and digital assets recorded on the blockchain.
At the same time, the Meta Marriage License identifies, records and marks the couples virtual identity and place of marriage on the blockchain as an NFT.
The legal team believes that currently there is no legal framework for marriage in the Metaverse, so whether it is legally binding is more of a contractual issue.
A couple from Brazil also held a wedding in Decentraland. The wedding invited relatives, friends and other institutional guests through smart contracts. Each guest can receive NFT as a wedding souvenir.
The land of Decentraland where their wedding is located is worth 2 million US dollars, but the scenes and items in the wedding are all presented by the partners. Our wedding was a collaboration, with a lot of celebrities and institutions involved in the event, so we spent very little money, the couple said in an interview.
However, although the Rose Law Group tried its best to legalize marriage in the metaverse, for most legal experts, this form still does not have legal benefits. After all, appearing in a virtual image at a wedding ceremony is more like a game experience .
