Chapter 1: Manta Pacific Alpha (Ethereum L2)
In its current version, Manta Pacific is based on Ethereum’s Optimistic Rollup, using Ethereum’s Data Availability (DA). It leverages the Manta Networks Universal Circuits to enable developers to quickly build, test, and deploy applications that support ZK (zero-knowledge proof) using only Solidity and the Universal Circuits SDK. The goal is to build a dApp (decentralized application) ecosystem based on Manta zkSBT and general-purpose circuits such as zkShuffle.
On Manta Pacific, developers can benefit from Manta’s universal circuitry and the low gas fees and scalability provided by the OP Stack to build unique ZK-enabled dApps that are unprecedented among existing layer 2 solutions. . In particular, Manta Pacific provides common circuits for popular use cases (e.g., card shuffling/dealing and private on-chain voting), Solidity smart contracts for on-chain ZK logic, and a TypeScript SDK for front-end integration.
Based on Mantas universal circuits, developers without ZK background can easily develop dApps with built-in ZK features without spending years of engineering effort customizing ZK circuits. Unlike Starkware and Aztec who redesigned domain-specific languages (DSLs) like Cario and Noir, Manta Pacific achieved equivalency with the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) by adopting OP Stack Bedrocks code base. Therefore, all existing Ethereum smart contracts can be seamlessly adapted to Manta Pacific, while enabling ZK-based functions to open new application scenarios, such as verifiable private DID/KYC, fully ZK-based on-chain games, And the synergy between DeFi and decentralized private identity, including whitelisting and monetization channels based on zkSBT.
Chapter 2: Manta Pacific Alpha II (+Celestia DA)
At this stage, Manta Pacific will achieve data expansion by integrating Celestias modular data availability (DA), significantly reducing gas costs for users to interact with dApps within the Manta Pacific ecosystem.
Manta Pacific currently uses calldata for settlement, the cost of which is linearly related to Ethereums gas price and fluctuates with Ethereum usage. In contrast, Celestias cost has a sub-linear relationship with Ethereums gas price and will be much cheaper than Ethereums existing cost. Although Ethereum has plans to reduce gas costs through EIP-4844, its costs will still be higher than Celestias costs, and block space will remain an emerging issue in the future.
Chapter 3: Manta Pacific Beta (+Transition to zkEVM)
In this phase, the goal is to fully transition to zkEVM by leveraging Polygon CDK. In the meantime, Manta Pacific may explore leveraging the transition period of the multi-certifier framework to safely migrate to full zkEVM. Multi-certifier will integrate Polygons ZK prover and existing OP Stack Rollup, allowing Manta Pacific to enjoy the benefits of Polygons ZK prover cluster and Mantas existing cluster at the same time, thereby benefiting in multiple dimensions. The multi-certifier architecture during the transition period will enhance the robustness of the network. Combined with Celestia DA, Manta Pacifics multi-certifier system will still provide users with a low-cost L2 system.
Manta Pacific plans to fully transition to zkEVM and leverage Polygons ZK prover. The final stage of the network architecture will be Mantas universal circuitry for built-in ZK features to support a wide range of ZK applications, combined with Validium services and Celestia DA as well as zkEVM and Polygon CDK for scalability.
Chapter 4: Manta Pacific Production Level Mainnet I (+ Universal Circuit 2.0)
For the Manta Pacific mainnet, Manta Pacific will further upgrade the general circuit to achieve lower gas costs, support more use cases, and provide a better user experience. First, Manta Pacific will integrate ZK proof aggregation technology to significantly reduce the on-chain proof verification gas cost of ZK applications and improve the throughput of ZK processing.
Secondly, Manta Pacific will integrate additional ZK solutions and corresponding smart contracts to support more ZK-based utilities. Third, Manta Pacific will provide a better user experience through its partnership with the Account Abstraction Project. Finally, Manta Pacific will achieve modularity, decentralization, high scalability, low gas cost and complete EVM equivalence, while leveraging novel ZK technology to unlock new application scenarios.

With the completion of Phase 4, Manta Pacific’s complete mainnet will be deployed.
