Blockfrost and the Filecoin Foundation are collaborating to integrate Filecoin’s decentralized storage capabilities as a powerful backup layer for Cardano applications built with Blockfrost. This collaboration will enhance data redundancy, quality assurance, and decentralization for Cardano applications.
Blockfrost provides an API-as-a-service solution that simplifies access to the Cardano blockchain, providing more functionality without having to run or maintain complex infrastructure and tools. Blockfrost also runs an InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) gateway cluster, enabling users to add, pin, and access resources.
By archiving its IPFS gateway cluster on Filecoin, the world’s largest decentralized storage network, Blockfrost will launch a new service layer for Cardano creators that includes IPFS and Filecoin storage. This integration not only strengthens the resilience of future Cardano applications, but also demonstrates its commitment to decentralization by prioritizing the coordination of two leading Layer-1 blockchain ecosystems, Cardano and Filecoin.
The benefits of this collaboration are as follows:
Data Redundancy: By storing Blockfrost’s IPFS node cluster on Filecoin, Cardano-based developers gain enhanced data redundancy and resilience, ensuring critical data is securely stored on a decentralized network and protected from data loss, corruption, or tampering.
Quality Assurance: Blockfrost’s new service layer provides decentralized storage through Filecoin, giving developers the option to store data securely on Filecoin while ensuring scalable and seamless access. By expanding storage capabilities and adding advanced backup layers, Blockfrost provides developers with more tools to create reliable data-driven applications.
Data Verifiability: Filecoin integration provides secure data provenance through immutable storage, transparent on-chain verifiability, and cryptographic hashing algorithms. Using proof of replication, Filecoin ensures the unique storage of data, while proof of spacetime verifies the long-term continuous storage of data. These essential features enable the creation of tamper-proof, auditable datasets, paving the way for the deployment of trustworthy AI applications using Blockfrost and enabling reliable decentralized model training.
Decentralization Commitment: Blockfrost and the Filecoin Foundation are both committed to the decentralization of the Internet. Securing Cardano applications’ on-chain data on Filecoin enables developers to build on a truly decentralized, redundant, and resilient storage infrastructure.
“Blockfrost is setting a new standard for data reliability and durability in the Cardano ecosystem with Filecoin,” said Marek Mahut, CEO of Blockfrost. “This integration gives developers peace of mind knowing their applications benefit from Filecoin’s decentralized storage and redundancy capabilities.”
Clara Tsao, founding officer of the Filecoin Foundation, said: Introducing Filecoins decentralized storage into the Cardano ecosystem can help developers create more secure, reliable and future-oriented applications. The fusion of these two leading blockchains has created a very good example of enabling a more resilient and decentralized Internet.
A more resilient, more decentralized future
Blockfrost integrates with Filecoin through Lighthouse , a platform built on Filecoin that provides permanent storage, encryption, custom gateways, and multi-chain smart contracts. This collaboration is more than just a technical integration, it is a step towards a more resilient and decentralized future for Cardano applications. By providing new capabilities to Cardano developers and leveraging Filecoin’s powerful infrastructure, this collaboration enhances data quality assurance, scalability, and redundancy for the Cardano ecosystem.
This collaboration highlights the coordinated efforts of two traditional layer-1 blockchains and marks a major step toward making decentralization the standard for the next generation of blockchain applications.
About Filecoin
Filecoin is a peer-to-peer network for storing files with built-in economic incentives that ensure long-term and reliable storage of files. Its purpose is to create a decentralized, efficient, and powerful foundation for human information.
About the Filecoin Foundation
The mission of the Filecoin Foundation is to protect humanitys most important information, promote open source governance of the Filecoin network, fund research and development projects of decentralized technologies, and support the development of the Filecoin ecosystem and community.
About Blockfrost
The Blockfrost API was launched in 2020 to simplify how developers interact with the Cardano blockchain. Now anyone can interact with the blockchain, ecosystem, and IPFS directly without having to run their own dedicated node, while still maintaining speed and scalability.
