Hackathon Overview
The BTCfi Summer Hackathon is a 12-week hackathon organized by CoreDAO in the summer of 2024. The event aims to promote innovation in the Bitcoin economy and attracted developers from the Web3 and BTCfi communities to participate. A total of 291 developers participated and submitted 74 decentralized application projects (BUIDLs) to the Core platform. This move aims to strengthen Cores role in the BTC field.
The Hackathon began on June 6, 2024, and included an opening ceremony, an application period, and a demo day on August 19, 2024. Winners were announced on August 26, 2024. Support was provided by sponsors including NLX, Halborn, TokenSoft, Verichains, and Request Finance.
Participants focused on developing unique applications that incorporate Core chain technology into their solutions. The event effectively expanded the Core ecosystem and enhanced developer engagement. The diversity and range of submitted projects highlighted the successful implementation of the event and its potential impact on future blockchain technology advancements.
Hackathon Winning Projects
1st Place: Rune Bridge : This system enables permissionless integration between Bitcoin and Core blockchains. It leverages EVM compatibility and a hybrid consensus model for scalability, and consists of smart contracts, off-chain relayers, and a factory ERC 20 contract to efficiently manage tokens.
2nd Place: OnchainVampireSurvivors : This is a Web3 time survival game with on-chain leaderboards and lottery features based on blockchain. The project uses ThirdWeb for wallet access, focuses on gas efficiency, and is developed using Cocos and Hardhat. Future enhancement plans include AI assets and deployment on the Core mainnet.
3rd Place: b 14 g Network - Enhancing Decentralization and Security on Core Chain with b 14 g : This project aims to enhance the security of Core Chain by implementing observer nodes and merged staking, promote the decentralization of monitoring and solve the commitment problem. It aims to integrate BTC with DeFi, improve the utility of CORE tokens and ensure the integrity of the network.

About the Organizer
CoreDAO
Core DAO manages Core Chain, a decentralized blockchain network focused on security and scalability. By combining Bitcoins proof-of-work with the Satoshi Plus consensus system (a combination of delegated proof-of-work and delegated proof-of-stake), Core DAO aims to enhance decentralization and security. The platform provides Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility, allowing Bitcoin miners to participate, while Bitcoin holders can stake without giving up custody. Core Chain supports high transaction throughput, is community-governed, and provides interoperability with other blockchains, using Solidity for efficient smart contract development. The organizations mission is to advance the development of decentralized applications secured by Bitcoin.
